Action Update from Fr. Frank
August 27, 2012
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
This week and next will be marked by the Conventions, and
for the first time many Americans will begin to focus in on
the elections and the candidates. One of the best things
that we and our organizations and Churches can do is to
encourage people to watch and listen. What are the
candidates saying, who is endorsing them, who is making the
speeches, what is the party platform, and where do the
candidates and parties stand on the issues? The conventions,
and later the Presidential debates, will be key moments for
many voters to make or solidify their decisions in this
election.
Along with encouraging our citizens to pay attention,
there are a few more things we can do in the coming days.
We are organizing nine weeks of prayer prior to Election
Day. Beginning on Tuesday, September 4, we invite Churches,
families, and individuals to pray the “Election Prayer for
Life” which you will find at
www.PrayerCampaign.org. We have
a limited supply of prayer cards that you can order now. The
text of the prayer, in English and Spanish, can also be
downloaded from the website.
The third national Voter Registration Sunday also takes
place on Sunday, September 9. This is an opportunity to
register voters in our Churches. Instructions and guidelines
are available at
www.PoliticalResponsibility.com.
We have also begun a series of short, powerful videos to
draw attention to the elections and the role that the right
to life plays as a defining issue. See
www.Unborn.info to
view the first of these, and spread it in any way you can.
Additional videos are in production now and will be released
in the coming weeks.
These videos will help to bring meaning to the word
“abortion,” which is often far too abstract in this debate,
especially as it relates to politics. Abortionists, however,
describe the procedure concretely as “dismemberment” and
“decapitation” (See, for instance, the book Abortion
Practice by abortionist Warren Hern.) To the candidates, in
these final weeks before Election Day, we have a simple
question to ask. When you say the word abortion, is this
what you mean? Let’s press the question; let’s raise
the challenge. If a public official, or one seeking public
office, has a position on abortion, one should expect that
he or she knows what the word means. If they expect public
policy to permit abortion, or taxpayers to fund it, they
should certainly be willing to describe what it is.
Finally, in the coming weeks we will activate our voter
guide distribution effort. There is still time to sign up at
www.PoliticalResponsibility.com.
Thank you for partnering with us in this election!
Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Pavone
National Director
